About JP Panter:
“J.P.” Panter, graduated from Western Michigan University, moved west for graduate school, and stayed in Northern California for 25 years. During the coronavirus pandemic she lived just north of London England, and recently returned to be near family in the wilds of northern Michigan.
J.P. is a constant student, and her artistic growth is evident in her work. Her creative journey has taken her to study at a variety of private ateliers, and schools including; The Scottsdale Artists School, the Disney Studios at Hilton Head South Carolina, the Pasadena Art College, the Academy of Art University in San Francisco (MFA Illustration) and in 2016 to the European Lettering Institute in Brugge.
Environment and community have always been an important part of J.P.’s artistic grounding. Even at a great distance, she runs a small nature journaling group in Napa Valley, which is an offshoot of the larger Nature Journal Club of the San Francisco Bay Area. She completed a competency study through U.C. Davis to become a certified California Naturalist. J.P.’s freelance illustrations focus on animals and how shared environments are impacted. She incorporates landscapes and cartographic elements into final works done by hand in line & wash renderings.
J.P. has taught a variety of drawing, and introductory lettering classes. These include:
- Friends of Calligraphy San Francisco (Trivial Pursuits)
- Napa Valley Artist’s Association (watercolor classes)
- the San Francisco International Pen Show, (architectural writing)
- Northern California Botanical Society (pointed pen calligraphy)
- Wild Wonder Nature Journal Conference (sketchbook layout and design)
- Castle in the Air (map mapping)
- Calderdale Calligraphers in West Yorkshire UK (Art Nouveau decorative borders)
