Inner Garden Letters
Inner Garden Letters is a creative calligraphy art workshop inspired by the beauty, movement, and textures of nature. In this imaginative exploration, we’ll discover how letters can move beyond traditional calligraphy and become expressive works of art through color, form, composition, and design.
Rather than focusing solely on traditional letterforms, Inner Garden Letters invites you to approach calligraphy as a visual language. We’ll create original alphabets and explore how letters can be stretched, shaped, layered, and transformed into images and compositions. Through playful experimentation, you’ll discover new ways to bring your own artistic voice into your lettering.
Exploring Color and Mixed Media
Watercolor and mixed media become tools for exploring the relationship between letters, color, and texture. We’ll experiment with marks, washes, shapes, and unexpected combinations to discover how color can change the feeling and character of a letter.
Letters Beyond the Page
Inner Garden Letters also explores the tactile and dimensional possibilities of calligraphy. We’ll experiment with artist books, paper cutting, and pop-up structures, discovering how letters can become objects, spaces, and three-dimensional compositions.
These techniques offer new ways to think about lettering—not simply as words written on a page, but as visual elements that can interact with shape, space, texture, and movement.
A More Expressive Approach to Calligraphy
Throughout the workshop, we’ll look at the storytelling power of calligraphy and consider how an alphabet can communicate mood, memory, place, and emotion. Inspired by the natural world, you’ll have the opportunity to play, experiment, and develop ideas without being limited by conventional letterforms.
