REVIEW: NICKER POSTER PAINTS

In my many years of calligraphic practice, I have used primarily gouache and watercolor for any colorful treatment of letters. When I had my first class with John Stevens during the pandemic, he was using Nicker Poster Paints. I didn’t jump on the bandwagon till this year, and am a fan, especially for practice work! Nicker’s have a beautiful array of colors and mix well together. The consistency is creamy, and the density of mark making can be divine. I love practicing Neuland with them, filling up rolls of Amazon packing paper! If they dry out over time, you can add their recovery liquid in small increments. You can see the lovely mix of colors in one of my pieces done at the International Calligraphy Conference this last June.

REVIEW: YASUTOMO FUSION BRUSHES

I am beginner at watercolor painting. I am taking my first class and wanted to have a
couple good brushes, instead of the cheapest brushes. The ones recommended to me were the Yasutomo Fusion brushes. They are an affordable synthetic bristle and
available on Amazon (https://a.co/d/3duOdlv).

The set has five brushes (#1, #2, #3, #4,
and #5). I have used these brushes for several projects and have found them to hold water well and to maintain their sharp points. The brushes release paint easily and work very well for lifting pigment. They release paint easily with a bit of brush soap. The synthetic bamboo handles are unlikely to crack over time.
These brushes are working well for me and I hope they will work well for you too.
